'We can see off big spenders City'
KENWYNE Jones hopes home form will be the key to Sunderland prevailing over Manchester City this weekend.
City are not only the world's richest club but are also the form team of the Premier League at the moment, as they go all out for a top four finish.
Their last game was a 4-2 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and they will fancy their chances of a win at the Stadium of Light this weekend.
But Jones reckons that the Wearsiders have nothing to fear on their own turf.
"We have been very good at home this season, very solid and we fancy our chances against anyone at the Stadium of Light," he said.
"Sometimes you can be like a Goliath at home but a rabbit – for want of a better word – away from home.
"Maybe we've been a little bit like that this season and our away form is something we are looking to turn around.
"But at home we have already beaten Liverpool and Arsenal, so there's no reason why we can't do well against Man City.
"They are a top team with top players, but I do not think we need fear anyone at home, and the win against Bolton midweek has given everyone fresh confidence, so we're looking forward to thee match and hoping to get a victory."
Jones feels that the win over Bolton has lifted a weight from the Wearsiders' shoulders with the ending of their 14 game winless run and he is anxious to press home the advantage.
He said: "It has been difficult for us because although we've played well in some games, we haven't been able to get that win.
"And the longer the run went on, the tougher it became.
"But the good thing is that we did not just beat Bolton – and in all honesty, we would have settled for any type of win, an awful, scrappy 1-0 win would have been enough – but we beat them convincingly.
"It was a good victory. A good team performance. We were strong in defence, in midfield and in attack, and we have to be just as strong against Manchester City this weekend if we hope to do well.
"If we can produce the same sort of performance as we did against Bolton then I think we have a good chance of getting another victory.
"Even though Manchester City are a different sort of side from Bolton Wanderers, I don't think it will be that different a game – the intensity will be just the same.
"But we are hoping that we can hit high standards again. Beating Bolton has given everyone a lift."
