Toon boss denies promotion pay-cut
NEWCASTLE United boss Chris Hughton has denied a report that a number of the club's players have been asked to take a pay cut next season.
Yesterday's Daily Mirror said the likes of Alan Smith, Kevin Nolan, Jonas Gutierrez and Fabricio Coloccini were faced with pay cuts, even if the Magpies are promoted.
It said owner Mike Ashley would instead offer extended deals to big earners, with the players picking up less money per year.
But Hughton said: "As far as I know, there's nothing in it. That financial story isn't particularly helpful."
