Ten-man Roofing make a point

JARROW Roofing produced a good display to draw 2-2 with Northern League Division One high-fliers Norton & Stockton last night.

The visitors had the chance to go top of the table, with Whitley Bay holding leaders Spennymoor, but couldn't get the better of Richie McLoughlin's side, even though Roofing played the last 25 minutes with 10 men.

Norton's Steve Huggins had the first effort when he curled a good shot around the Roofing defence that the unsighted Jak Wells did well to hold at the first attempt.

Roofing's first real chance came on 21 minutes when Kevin Davison's corner was headed just wide of the post by Danny Kirkup.

On 22 minutes, Norton took the lead when Shaun Clarke crossed to the far right hand side of the penalty area for Craig Gott to volley a brilliant goal that Wells had no chance of stopping.

Kirkup then volleyed a shot just wide of James Provett's goal, before David Malloy worked his way into the area, but shot at the side netting.

But on 39 minutes, Kevin Davison worked his way into the area and played the ball to Malloy who side stepped a defender before driving a left foot shot inside the keeper's right-hand post for the equaliser.

Roofing thought they had taken the lead on 57 minutes when Paul Jackson headed the ball against the bar, and it then bounced behind the keeper, but the referee ruled it hadn't crossed the line.

Davison was then sent off after picking up his second yellow card, and it looked all over for Roofing when Gott rifled home a penalty with 15 minutes left to put Norton in control.

But the 10 men kept going, and Craig Nelson twice went close before with five minutes left, substitute Kris Hughes raced down the left and cut inside to the fire the equaliser across the keeper.
