Simpson out to clip Swans' wings

DANNY Simpson admits Swansea City's march up the Championship table has caught him by surprise.

But the Newcastle United right-back is determined that Paulo Sousa's fourth-placed Swans side leave St James's Park tomorrow having had their wings clipped.

And Simpson – who hopes to shrug off the thigh problem he suffered in Monday night's 1-0 win at Preston North End to line up against Swansea – has warned them that Newcastle will be on the attack from the first whistle.

"They've got to come here and take us on," said Simpson. "We're back at home, and we'll be looking to play the same sort of football we did against Peterborough.

"I didn't realise until I looked at the table recently how well Swansea were doing. They're up there' but we're at home and buzzing with even more confidence.

"It was a tough away win at Preston and now we need to back that up. Swansea have had a couple of extra days rest, but the main thing is we are flying at the moment.

"Now we have four wins on the bounce, and earlier in the season we had five, so, hopefully, we can repeat that."
