RARING TO GO ... Durham ace Phil Mustard

DURHAM skipper Phil Mustard is looking forward to testing himself in Bangladesh after landing a late call-up to their Premier League T20 competition.

The wicketkeeper/batsman was originally unsold when the players were auctioned off, but franchise Barisal Burners had not taken their full quota of foreign players.

Mustard and Australian Shane Harwood were snapped up late on, and join Aussie international Brad Hodge and West Indian star Chris Gayle in the Burners squad.

And Mustard believes the opportunity to take part in the competition can be a big plus for both him and his county.

“It’s great to have the chance to play in various competitions around the world,” he said.

“It’s an opportunity to experience playing cricket in different conditions and against some very good players.

Durham’s Phil Mustard Is Hot Stuff In Africa

“It will be good to get some more time out in the middle, and hopefully that will mean I’m in good shape when the new season starts for Durham.”

The contest in Bangladesh will be Mustard’s second T20 event of the winter.

Before Christmas, the Sunderland-born star spent six weeks out in Zimbabwe playing for the Mountaineers.

Mustard made his mark in the short spell, playing six T20 clashes and scoring a total of 195 runs.

His best performance came in the final against Mashonaland Eagles as the Mountaineers won by 27 runs.

The Durham ace hit 56 runs from just 31 balls, weighing in with seven fours and one six as his side posted a total of 142-6 from their innings.

The BPL starts on February 10 with Burners opening proceedings against Sylhet Royals.
