ON FORM ... Francis Croes is rocked back by another punch from Anthony Nelson.

ANTHONY Nelson paid tribute to his huge support after continuing his 100 per cent start to life as a professional boxer.

Babyface gained a comprehensive points verdict over Middlesbrough’s Francis Croes at Rainton Meadows on Friday night to make it five wins out of five in the paid ranks.

The Horsley Hill fighter was in dominant mood, shrugging off the pain of a hand injury to win every round.

Croes was close to being stopped a couple of times, and Nelson was slightly disappointed he had gone the distance, but was delighted with the victory, roared on by a raucous 200-strong following.

He said: “I’d like to say thanks to my trainer Mal Gates for his hard work and dediaction, and to all the fans as they spur me on and are a great support.

“It was a good result, but I’m a bit disappointed I didn’t get him out early.

“The hand’s a little bruised and sore so I’m just going to lay off the punching for the next week.

“I think I hurt it in the second round. I’m not sure if it prevented me from stopping him though. I thought it could have been stopped a couple of times through the fight, but I suppose it looks a bit different when you’re watching. He was a tough kid though.”

Nelson’s Harton & Westoe Gym stable-mate David Lake couldn’t replicate his victory, losing on points to Peter Cope, but manager and trainer Gates was happy with the night’s work – and has predicted big things for Babyface.

“Anthony will be stepping up to eight rounds in his next fight, and will hopefully get an area fight in the near future,” he said.

“We’ve got big plans for him at super flyweight this year.

“He hurt his hand early on against Croes, otherwise he may have stopped him, but the kid was tough.

“Anthony struggled a bit with a virus last week, but his fitness got him through in the end.

“I was very pleased with the way the lads performed, and would like to thank Nelson’s fans who were very vocal throughout and created a brilliant atmosphere.
