Sima boss not happy, despite win

SIMONSIDE boss Gordon Diamond was not happy with his side, despite their 5-3 Northern Alliance Division Two victory over Newcastle Chemfica.

The result keeps Sima in the hunt at the top of the table, but Diamond has demanded improvement – especially from his defenders.

He said: "We played well in parts, and there were some good personal performances, but collectively we must do much better.

"It's another three points, but we have to change our mindset.

"We cannot rely on our forwards to keep scoring five goals to win a game. We have to start defending from the front, and start playing with a little more aggression."

Simonside started brightly, and took the lead within a minute when Adam Bravey provided the perfect cross to the far post for Craig Lumley to head past the keeper and into the net.

Alan Greening was very busy in the Sima goal, saving three one-on-ones, but just before half time the hosts did manage to find a way past the keeper when they beat the offside trap and levelled the scoring.

Sima regained the lead on 55 minutes when Sean Flood struck after Kyle Riley's free-kick rebounded off the post, and went further ahead when Shaun Edwards rounded the goalkeeper to slot home.

Greening then saved a penalty, but Chemfica soon reduced the defecit, and were level when substitute Andy Hunter headed into his own net.

Sima came back again, though, and were in front again when man of the match Riley struck, and with five minutes left they sealed the win as skipper David Scroggins headed home.
