Reyrolle sign Shields star Smith

LOAN MOVE ... Barrie Smith.

LOAN MOVE ... Barrie Smith.

HEBBURN Reyrolle have completed the capture of Barrie Smith from South Shields in what is something of a coup for the club.

Smith has joined the Northern Alliance Premier outfit on loan until the end of the season after Mariners boss Jon King agreed to allow him to leave Filtrona Park.

Smith goes straight into the squad for Reyrolle’s game at home to in-form Harraby tomorrow, while Craig Malley could also return after he missed last weekend’s draw at Killingworth due to work commitment’s.

Dean Patton, Stephen Cockburn and Craig Watson are all pushing for a start after the trio impressed after they were introduced from the bench last weekend.

Reyrolle boss Mark Collingwood said: “Harraby are a cracking footballing side that will provide another tough test for us – they are the form team of the league.

“I thought we were fantastic in patches last weekend, but we must go in to this match full of confidence and go all out for the three points.

“This is a massive match for us, a match we must win.

“The signing of Barrie Smith has given the lads a huge lift, and I am sure that he will provide the cutting edge that has been missing in the final third for us.

“He is a great right-back, but I think he is better further up the pitch.

“We created chance after chance last weekend without getting any reward, and we must be ruthless in front of goal and put the opposition to the sword if we are to achieve anthing this season.”
