Reyrolle turn up the Heat

HEBBURN Reyrolle blasted their way into the Northern Alliance Premier title race, knocking Heaton Stannington off top spot in the process.

Heaton started the game as leaders, but were beaten 4-2 by Mark Collingwood’s side, who moved up to third, just four points behind new leaders Carlisle City.

Hit-man Channon North struck twice in the 20th and 28th minutes for the visitors, but Heaton drew level before the break with goals from Michael Waggett and Robert Nolan.

Reyrolle striker Chris McDonald regained their advantage on the hour, and then finished things off when he added the fourth with just five minutes left.

In Division Two, HARTON & Westoe manager Gordon Diamond was left frustrated by their goalless draw with Northbank Carlisle.

The goals have dried up in recent weeks for the South Tynesiders, and they could have gone in 4-0 ahead at the interval, with Steven Graham seeing a goal chalked off for a foul on the keeper.

The second half was more disjointed, but David Bulman had a good chance saved, while David Scroggins saw his last-minute header tipped over.

Diamond said: “We’re very proud of the team performance, but we were bewildered at how we didn’t come away with all three points.”
