GATESHEAD captain Ben Clark believes his side will head to Forest Green tomorrow in a confident mood after booking their place in the FA Trophy quater-finals in midweek.

The 2-1 win over Alfreton was Gateshead’s first in five attempts, and former Sunderland and Hartlepool defender Clark hopes they will use the victory to kick on ahead of a trio of away games, starting at Forest.

The Tynesiders then travel to York City for a televised Wednesday night tie before making the long trip to Luton Town next Saturday as they look to reach the semi-finals of the Trophy for the second year.

Clark said: “It was an important win in context of the week ahead. It sets us up nicely for a tough game against Forest Green, and it gave the club a great tie at Kenilworth Road.

“To be in the last eight of the Trophy, and two points of the play-off’s is a fantastic achievement. Hopefully, we can kick on now and cement our place in the top five.

“If you have any aspirations of getting into the play-offs then these are the games you are going to have to try and win against Forest and York, two top sides with some good players.

“But we have been good away from home this season, and we tend to do well against the good teams so we will be confident.”

Heed boss Ian Bogie could face a potential striker crisis ahead of the trip to The New Lawn, however, after leading scorer Jon Shaw was forced off at half-time against Alfreton with a groin strain, leaving Yemi Odubade as the club’s only fit recognised striker, with Nathan Fisher still struggling with groin injury and Liam Hatch out with a calf tear.

Boldon-born Jamie Chandler is still suspended following his red card against Newport County, but former Newcastle winger Alan O’Brien is available to make his debut.
