I've seen the Light - Gyan

ASAMOAH Gyan is hungry to live up to his £13m price tag after sealing his deadline day move to Sunderland.

It's a record deal for the club, who announced the signing minutes before yesterday's transfer window closed.

Gyan, who has returned to France to complete the paperwork for his visa, joins from Rennes on a four-year deal with the total package, including his wages, worth in the region of 20m.

The 24-year-old said: "The technical guys I have worked with always tell me my style of play suits the English Premier League.

"I have been watching the Premier League, and I think I will be all right.

"This is my first season in England, and I hope everything goes well – it is a challenge for me.

"I am a big signing for Sunderland this season, and more expectation will be there because of that.

"I have to work extremely hard. It is an important contract for me – and the fans of Sunderland. I have to give my best to prove to everyone what I am capable of."

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce had tried and failed to snare Gyan last summer, and feared missing out on him again this summer after Turkish club Fenerbache emerged as potential buyers.

But the Ghana international was delighted the deal was finally done 24 hours after he landed in the North East to open talks.

"It was a long day," he said. "It took quite a long time. I was expecting to come here before, but finally I'm here, and I'm happy to be here.

"It has been my dream to play in England.

"My family live in England, and the coach has confidence in me – he has been following me for two years."

Gyan, who has 22 goals in 44 appearances for Ghana, and netted 14 times in 47 games for Rennes, is looking forward to playing alongside Darren Bent.

He added: "I have watched Sunderland, and they play 4-4-2. That is good for a centre forward.

"Benty is a great centre forward. I wish to play with good guys, and he is one of the great forwards."
