Hughton dampens goal-glut expectations
CHRIS Hughton has warned Newcastle United fans not to expect another home demolition against Blackpool.
Hughton's side opened their St James's Park campaign with a 6-0 thrashing of Aston Villa.
And the result is sure to put a few more thousand on the gate for Saturday's game against Ian Holloway's men, with the club hoping for a near-50,000 crowd.
However, Hughton, aware how that performance buoyed Tyneside, is keen to "manage" expectations, and has insisted he'd be happy with a win of any description against a team heavily tipped to last just one year in the top flight.
"What we've tried to do over a period of time is manage the expectations, and that's the case against Blackpool," said Hughton.
"We're talking about a Blackpool side that went to Wigan and scored four goals.
"They're a team on the same points as us, and they've started the season equally to us.
"We can be confident, but it's important to look at getting a victory, whatever way that comes, than how many we're going to score."
Premier League survival might be the No1 aim of Newcastle and Blackpool, but having both taken four points from their last three games, there's optimism in both camps.
"Looking at the results so far, Blackpool will feel very capable of coming up here and getting a result," added Hughton.
A crowd of 43,546 turned up for the Villa game, and they were rewarded by the club's biggest home league win in more than a decade, Andy Carroll marking the return of Premier League football to St James's Park with a hat-trick.
"The last time Blackpool came to Newcastle, their fans were loud, but our supporters are just so vocal they were drowned out," added Hughton, whose side beat a well-supported Blackpool 4-1 at home last season.
