CONFIDENT .... Sunderland youngster Jack Colback.

JACK Colback insists there is no barrier towards Sunderland doing the double over Arsenal in back-to-back encounters with the Gunners.

Arsenal head to the Stadium of Light tomorrow in the first of a double header against the Black Cats, with Arsene Wenger’s side travelling back to Wearside seven days later in the FA Cup fifth round.

The sixth placed Gunners will be confident of furthering both their top four credentials and their passage in the cup, but Colback believes Sunderland are equally optimistic after seven wins from their last nine games.

Colback said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for us. They will come to our place twice and I’m sure they will believe they can win but we will too.

“We know what to expect from them. They like to pass it well but so do we too.

“It’ll be an open and enjoyable game – hopefully it will be a win.

“We take the game tomorrow first and then go from there, we won’t start to think about the FA Cup tie until after this weekend.”

Sunderland certainly aren’t lacking self-belief due to their resurgence under Martin O’Neill, with a home win tomorrow taking the Black Cats to within four points of Arsenal.

O’Neill Stunned By Points Tally

Midfielder Colback, who scored a stunning opener in Wednesday’s success at Middlesbrough, believes O’Neill has brought a winning mentality to the Stadium of Light.

“Results breeds confidence and we’re going into every match believing that we can win and we should win,” added the 22-year-old.

“He’s brought a great self belief. He’s installed a lot of confidence in the players and he just shows that belief in us.

“It rubs off on the pitch. Maybe we’ve had that little bit of luck – like in the Blackburn game for example – two great strikes won us that game but that kick-started our season.

“We’re just going into games expecting to win.

“Unbeatable probably isn’t the right word for how we feel, but we’re going into every game extremely confident.

“We know if we set out right and do our things well we’ve got a chance.”

n South Shields MP David Miliband will be interviewed on Football Focus tomorrow live from the Stadium of Light.
