Sunderland's Craig Gardner is mobbed after his wonder goal against Swansea.

TWO of the finest finishes you’ll see in a football match sealed all three points for Sunderland against a classy Swansea side

Stephane Sessegnon, a quarter-of-an-hour into the first half, and Craig Gardner, five minutes from the end of the second half, grabbed the goals

But Sunderland had to work all the way against opponents who held on to and passed the ball wonderfully well and did not deserve to go away empty-handed.

For all their good work, though, the Swans did not threaten Simon Mignolet’s goal enough and a dangerous free-kick from Gylfi Sigurdsson in the second half was the extent of the visitors’ goal threat.

Freezing cold weather and strong winds made the game difficult for both sides, but Sunderland carved out plenty of good opportunities and the two they took were special.

Sessegnon’s wafted effort from a narrow angle, left of goal, found the far right corner of Michel Vorm’s goal while substitute Gardner’s fiercely struck effort from 25 yards out gave the Swansea keeper no chance and will be a contender for Goal of the Month.
