Kieran hopes for Bolton boost

KIERAN Richardson hopes victory over Bolton Wanderers tomorrow night will put a different gloss on Sunderland's recent results.

The former Manchester United and England player is set to start on the left-wing for the Black Cats tomorrow night, hoping to benefit from a Bolton side which has conceded eight goals in its last three away games.

And he says if Sunderland can take all three points tomorrow, the run of four draws in five games which preceded it, will look a whole lot more solid.

He told the Gazette: "It's a big game for us tomorrow night, but we've got to go into it positively and make sure we get that win we all want.

"We were all disappointed with only drawing against Fulham in our last game, but it's gone now and we've all got to move on.

"We didn't get the three points we wanted, but we got one point at least.

"And now we've got to get the three points on Tuesday that will make the one point against Fulham maybe look that little bit better.

"I don't think it's a million miles from turning around for us in terms of results, but you have to take it one day at a time and try to stay patient.

"We were desperate to beat Fulham, but they're a good well-organised Premier League side who aren't playing in Europe for nothing.

"We found it hard and we are finding it hard at the moment.

"But one good result gets us going again and it would be great if it comes tomorrow."

Richardson played in the opening day of the season victory over Bolton at the Reebok – Sunderland's last win away from home.

And hopes that just as that game boosted everyone on Wearside, so will tomorrow's.

"The game at Bolton gave us a flying start to the season and hopefully this game against them can set us off on another decent run," he said.

"I remember the game at their place very well. We had just come in off a very good pre-season, everyone was very fit and we really hit the ground running.

"We exploded out of the blocks and handled a physical side very well while still playing some good football, and we've got to look to do the same tomorrow."
