Catt should be fit for Man City clash

KEY man Lee Cattermole is expected to be fit for this Sunday's game against Manchester City, easing Steve Bruce's selection problems.

Cattermole was substituted with 20 minutes of Sunderland' game against Bolton Wanderers remaining on Tuesday.

The midfielder had only just returned from a hamstring strain and it looked as though he might just have aggravated the problem again.

But, although the next 48 hours is crucial, the England Under 21 man is expected to heal sufficiently to be able to play against the Blues.

That will be a big boost for Bruce, who is already without skipper Lorik Cana, who begins a two-match suspension for picking up his 10th yellow card of the season this week.

The good news for the manager is that injury-prone John Mensah continues to enjoy his window of full fitness and Sunderland could therefore feature an unchanged rearguard for the third game in succession.

But it is midfield where Sunderland are a little light with the Man City game expected to come just a little too soon for Andy Reid or Jordan Henderson's return from injury.

Both players should come into contention for Sunderland's next game, the match against Birmingham City in just over a week's time, but are unlikely to be involved this Sunday.

Bruce is likely to ask Steed Malbranque to continue on the left flank and Fraizer Campbell on the right, which leaves him with a choice of who partners Campbell in central midfield – Bolo Zenden is one possiblility, as is Kieran Richardson, should the former Manchester United man recover from a calf strain.
