Stoke lose appeal over Huth red card v Sunderland
CARD UPHELD ... Stoke's Robert Huth will serve a three-match ban after this sending off v Sunderland.
STOKE City have lost their appeal to the Football Association against defender Robert Huth’s red card received during Saturday’s home clash with Sunderland.
Huth was sent off by referee Martin Atkinson after 45 minutes of the Premier League encounter at the Britannia Stadium for a challenge on Blacks Cats midfielder David Meyler.
Stoke boss Tony Pulis opted to appeal against the dismissal after claiming there was “no intent” in Huth’s challenge, and that he “was nowhere near the Sunderland player.”
But an independent regulatory commission have rejected the appeal today.
A statement on the FA website read: “An independent regulatory commission has today dismissed the claim of wrongful dismissal of Stoke City’s Robert Huth.
“The defender will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect following his red card for serious foul play in the game with Sunderland on February 4.”
It means Huth will miss two league games, at Fulham this weekend and the home clash with Swansea on February 26, plus the FA Cup fifth-round encounter at Crawley on February 19.
The commission did not exercise the option of adding another game to Huth’s punishment which can occur if they deem an appeal to be frivolous.
Huth will also be eligible to play in Stoke’s two-legged Europa League tie with Valencia on February 16 and 23.
Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill claimed the Huth challenge was “reckless” in his media conference ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup replay with Middlesbrough

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 12:51 PMJazzy, At least Cattermole hasn't broken anyone's leg like Shawcross has. Online surveys showed that far more than half of people thought it was a sending off. Whether it was or not, singling out David Meyler as a diver was ridiculous. I'm sure Pulis did it to take the attention off of the current slide of his long ball team.

Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 06:25 PM@mwiley - Coming from a Sunderland supporter when you have a player like Cattermole in your side. 37 yellows and 5 reds in 3.5 seasons. Seems like your players are more suited to MMA than football. I suppose you agree with the sending off then? Dirty cheating diving scumbags

Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 05:43 PMjazzyb I can see why you are upset that he will be out for a few games. Because of the style of play that your rugby team employs, your defenders, such as Huth, score many of your goals.

Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 05:18 PMWhat an absolute joke!!! Anyone with an ounce of sense can see that this should not have been a red card. If only referees had the bottle to admit when they are wrong then it wouldn't be a problem.
