Maxwel Cornet has reportedly agreed to join West Ham United after the London club triggered the winger’s release clause at Burnley.

Several Premier League sides were alerted to Cornet’s £17.5million release clause following The Clarets’ relegation from the Premier League.

The likes of Newcastle United and Leeds United were understood to be interested in the Ivory Coast international but opted against triggering his release clause as West Ham moved in.

Sky Sports are now reporting that the 25-year-old is on his way to London to complete a medical with The Hammers.

Despite Burnley’s relegation, Cornet enjoyed a productive debut Premier League season with nine goals in 26 appearances since joining from Lyon last summer.

Cornet made over 250 appearances for Lyon between 2015 and 2021, playing alongside Newcastle’s midfield star Bruno Guimaraes.

And his arrival at West Ham could be confirmed in time for the start of the new Premier League season this weekend.
