Allan Saint-Maximin was forced off against Manchester City.

The Newcastle United winger was taken off late in this afternoon’s 2-2 draw against the Premier League champions. Stand-in captain Jonjo Shelvey scored an 88th-minute equaliser for Steve Bruce's side, who twice came from behind at St James's Park to claim a point. Jetro Willems was also on the scoresheet.

Saint-Maximin and striker Andy Carroll – who missed the game with a rib injury suffering in training – will now be assessed ahead of Thursday night’s game against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. Newcastle are 12th in the league table.

On Saint-Maximin’s injury, head coach Bruce said: “He’s sore. He had a sore one before half time, but I’m sure he’ll be OK. Allan and (Miguel) Almiron were excellent.”

Asked about Carroll’s absence, Bruce added: “He hurt his rib, and didn’t quite make it.”
