Callum Wilson is set to be named in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man England squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Newcastle striker has reportedly been favoured over Brentford’s Ivan Toney and AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham following his fine run of form since returning from injury. Wilson has scored six and assisted three in 10 Premier League games this season.

The 30-year-old will join Newcastle team-mates Nick Pope and Kieran Trippier as part of the England squad. It will be his first international call-up since signing for The Magpies in 2020.

England’s squad will be officially confirmed at around 2pm on Thursday afternoon.
