Newcastle United’s Ryan Taylor hails ‘dizzying’ Premier League success

Newcastle United's Ryan Taylor celebrates his team's first goal against Blackburn Rovers.

RYAN Taylor admits Newcastle United’s success so far this season has been “dizzying”.

But the club’s Mr Versatile is adamant that he and his team-mates will be focused when they take on Aston Villa at St James’s Park tomorrow.

A victory would see Newcastle could go joint-fourth in the Premier League ahead of Chelsea’s home game against Manchester United later in the afternoon.

Alan Pardew’s side had a long spell in the final Champions League place before injuries took their toll.

However, they edged ahead of Liverpool and Arsenal after Wednesday night’s 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers, and a return to European football isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.

And Taylor told the Gazette: “We are fifth – it’s dizzy heights – but we’ve been up there before.

“We’ve been up there most of the season. There’s 15 games to go, who knows?

“Europe’s definitely on the radar, but we know how tough this league. We didn’t play well (at Blackburn), but we won.

“Hopefully, we put in another performance and get another three points.”

Pardew will again be without the suspended Yohan Cabaye against Villa, though he does have strikers Papiss Demba Cisse and Demba Ba available after they returned from the African Cup of Nations.

“The big disappointment at the football club was losing Yohan,” said Taylor.

“But we’ve got the two strikers to come back, and they’ll be hungry to start playing together.

“That just gives the gaffer a little bit of a headache. We won at Blackburn, so does he change it, or does he leave it?

“I’m sure they will come back into the squad. The great thing is they have come back from the African Cup of Nations quite early.

“I’m sure they won’t be happy about being back early, but it might work in our favour.”
