Schar suffered a knee injury in yesterday’s 3-2 win over Southampton at St James’s Park – and Switzerland international’s “goal” now is to be ready for the delayed Euro 2020 tournament.
“Difficult to accept,” Schar tweeted. “I felt really good on the pitch, and the team did well the last few games. Now I will be out for a few months, and it’s gonna be a hard time. But I will try everything to be back on the pitch as soon as possible. My goal will be to be ready for the Euros.”

"Unfortunately, it looks as if we’ve picked up an awful injury with Manquillo,” said injury-hit Steve Bruce. "It looks as if Fab Schar has a bad knee injury. And, of course, Callum Wilson has a hamstring too.”
Bruce was without defenders Jamaal Lascelles and Federico Fernandez for the Southampton game.
Lascelles and Fernandez have struggled for fitness since recovering from Covid-19.

Meanwhile, Bruce loaned 29-year-old defender Florian Lejeune to Alaves last summer. United’s head coach said: “He’s fit, he’s healthy, which is the important thing. I think it’s important that the kid still plays the games.”
