His brace against Brentford last weekend took his tally for Newcastle up to seven goals, two clear of joint second top scorers Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson on five for the calendar year.
Seven goals in 17 league starts is a respectable record for most strikers, let alone a central-midfielder who had netted just six in his previous 117 outings prior to arriving in England.

“To be honest, it has surprised me,” he told The Gazette. "I never scored a lot, but this way, I am scoring. It’s the job of Eddie [Howe] as well.
"He joked with me that I wasn’t so good with the head and I had never scored a header [before signing for Newcastle] but I have two here [against Leicester City and Brentford].”
Guimaraes’ two goals in a 5-1 win over Brentford came with his family in attendance at St James's Park.

"I’m grateful for [scoring against Brentford] as well,” he added. “It’s not my best moment inside and outside of the pitch, but one of the best moments in my life and I want to enjoy this as much as I can.”
