Alan Shearer's brilliant four-word response as Newcastle United fans launch ownership bid
The Newcastle United Supporters’ Trust (NUST) launched an initiative called the 1892 Pledge, which is aiming to raise enough money to buy a percentage of the club when Mike Ashley finally sells up.
NUST board member Alex Hurst believes £3million is a realistic target. Supporters can set up direct debit payments through a dedicated 1892 Pledge website.

United’s record goalscorer tweeted: “Well done, I’m in.”
Hurst said: “It’s important to stress we’re not asking fans to part with their life savings or cash in their pension pots – this is not what Pledge 1892 is about.
“Instead, it’s about making small, regular donations of a few pounds a month, which will build up a fund over time.”
If unsuccessful, funds raised will be donated to an unspecified North East charity.
