Ferdinand in favour after bust-up
STEVE Bruce has confirmed that Anton Ferdinand is back in favour at the Stadium of Light after clear-the-air talks in the wake of a summer bust-up between manager and player.
The centre-half looked destined to leave Sunderland after an uneasy relationship with the manager came to a head in a showdown between the two.
Ferdinand's representatives were actively looking to sell him over the summer, and several Italian clubs showed an interest.
But Bruce was at pains to point out that he admired Ferdinand's professionalism and hard work in pre-season, and that he had the opportunity to fight their way back into the fold.
"He is back in the frame," admitted the Sunderland manager. "Sometimes you have a row at work, it happens.
"But the one thing I'll never do is bear a grudge. I'll never, in management, cut my nose off to spite my face – even though some might say that would be an improvement!
"Sometimes you have a row. We had a row, but so what?
"We pay his wages, he came back into the team and played very well so he'll be in contention for Wigan.
"He's still got a future here because he's our player.
"He's not going anywhere, and if and when he's required to, he will play."
