Fans Deep-ly deserved win

NEWCASTLE United's fans got what they deserved at Deepdale – three points, according to Danny Simpson.

Chris Hughton's players went to the 3,400 in away end at the final whistle to salute their backing on a wet night which wasn't ideal for playing – or watching – football.

But thanks to Kevin Nolan's 74th-minute winner, Newcastle supporters went home happy, having seen their team return to the top of the Championship.

"It would have been easy for the fans to sit at home in the warm and watch on TV, but they're mad passionate about their team," said Simpson.

"It was on telly, but to come here and support us like they did was great. It's even more satisfying that we gave them the three points they were looking for."

Simpson, however, faces a race to be fit for Newcastle's next game, Saturday's home fixture against high-flying Swansea City.

"It's feeling tight, but it was just a precaution that I came off," said right-back Simpson. "I hopefully stopped myself from doing any more damage to it.

"I'm a quick healer, so hopefully I'll get in and see how it is. I just felt it get tighter as we went on. There was nothing that I felt go, and hopefully I'll be OK for Saturday."
