FA Cup woe for Shields
SOUTH Shields crashed out of the FA Cup last night following a 3-0 defeat at Dunston in a preliminary round replay.
The home side took an early advantage as Andy Bulford capitalised on a defensive error to fire past Josh Carmichael from close range.
The home side doubled their advantage on 10 minutes as Steven Pickering collected a ball to fire home from 10 yards.
The home side dominated play as Shields were unable to gain any meaningful possession against a determined Dunston side.
On the quarter-hour, Galbraith and Steve Preen wasted opportunities, as they fired wide from the edge of the box.
Halfway through the first period, Chris Winn collected the ball from Michael Rodenby, he controlled the ball well before turning his marker and fired at goal, the attempt was well saved by former Mariners shot-stopper Andy Clark.
In the closing minute of the first period Lee Paul Scroggins received the ball from Andy Brabbs, but his shot flew just wide of the post.
At the start of the second period, the game was over as a contest as Galbraith shrugged aside the challenge of Mark Grant to fire home from 15 yards.
As hard as Shields tried, they were unable to find a way back into the game as the hosts progressed into the next round of the cup and an away tie with Durham City.
South Shields are next in action on Saturday against North Shields in the FA Vase at Filtrona Park.
