DONE DEAL ... Nikica Jelavic arrives at Goodison Park.

EVERTON have confirmed the signing of 26-year-old striker Nikica Jelavic from Rangers after the Croatian agreed personal terms and passed a medical.

Jelavic has signed a four-and-a half year contract at Goodison Park for an undisclosed fee – believed to be around £6m – and will be available to make his debut in Saturday’s game against Wigan.

Rangers chairman Craig Whyte defended the sale of the Croatian international on Rangers’ official website today, saying: “One, the player wanted to leave and there is no point in trying to keep a player who no longer wants to be at Ibrox.

“Two, the club is simply not in a financial position to turn down offers for players which give the club a good return on its original investment.”

The former Rapid Vienna man has scored 30 goals in 45 appearances during his spell in the SPL and becomes David Moyes latest signing, following midfielder Darren Gibson and striker Landon Donovan into Goodison.
