Chris is on a Parr with gold run
HEBBURN'S Christopher Parr brought Gateshead from second into the gold medal position in Houghton Harriers' Royal Signals Trophy North Eastern Road Relay Championships.
Over a 2.6-miles leg in the Hetton Lyons Country Park on Saturday, Parr, taking over 15 seconds down behind Morpeth's Mark Brown, was level at halfway over the paths around the lake, and finished 18 seconds clear in 10.38.
Shaun Moralee on the first leg for Durham recorded the joint fastest leg of 10.36 with New Marske's Andrew Wyles.
Parr was fourth fastest, a second behind Philip Hurst of Elswick.
A young team of juniors from Jarrow and Hebburn AC finished a prominent eighth from 47 teams.
Geoge Lowry was ninth on the opening leg in 11.51. Andrew Leese finished 13th in 13.07, and Tristan Peel moved up a place to 12th in 13.06.
Shaun Barrass improved to ninth in 11.53, with Greg Ritchie, on the final stage, eighth in 12.07.
Frank Strand was 19th in the veterans' event in 15.45, with Dave Whitmore 17th in 16.34 on an incomplete South Shields Harriers team.
Sunderland retained their title reeling off a ninth consecutive victory over six minutes ahead of North Shields.
Angela Hunter, from South Tyneside, finished fourth for Chester-le-Street B team on the first leg of the senior women's race in 12.41.
Chester-le-Street A team were the champions from Morpeth, with the Chester B team in third.
Emma Raven – first for Chester-le-Street with 11.57 on the opening leg – clocked the fastest time of the day, with Hunter 10th fastest.
