Bruce changes away-day routine

SUNDERLAND will head off to the North West a day early and train at Blackburn Rovers ahead of Saturday's match at Wigan Athletic.

Steve Bruce has decided to change the club's usual routine in a bid to break the away hoodoo, and that involves being in the North West tomorrow morning rather than tomorrow night.

The Black Cats boss admitted he is willing to try different things to freshen things up, especially if it means that the Wearsiders travel sickness can finally be cured.

He told the Gazette: "We're just looking at changing things a bit.

"Our away record has been poor, and we have to consider anything which might perhaps affect it for the better.

"The away record was poor with Sunderland in the Premier League long before I arrived.

"But it has continued to be poor, and that's my concern now.

"We've been in touch with Blackburn Rovers, looking to get a training session in there just to change things around a little.

"I think there are two things that we really have to look at – the mentality of the players, and the formation we play.

"But beyond that, we're open to looking at anything, and that includes maybe changing our arrival times or the place where we train.

"It might have no effect at all, it might have a big effect, but we're open to trying anything to change things."
