Man taken to hospital after motorcycle crashes into lamp post at South Shields seafront

A man has been taken to hospital with a head injury after his motorcycle crashed in a lamp post in South Shields

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 9.38am this morning (March 30) and the road had to be temporarily closed, as they dealt with the incident.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called today at 9.38am today to reports of a person injured as a result of an RTC involving a motorbike on Pier Parade in South Shields. No other vehicles were involved.

"We deployed two ambulance crews and a rapid response paramedic and took one male patient to South Tyneside hospital with a head injury.”

Sea Road was closed to traffic and a diversion was put in place via Seafield Terrace while the road was closed.

The rider and his pillion passenger received medical treatment at the scene and their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Northumbria Police said.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At about 9.50am we received a report that a motorcycle had collided with a lamp post on Sea Road in South Shields.

"Emergency services attended the scene and the rider and his pillion passenger have both received medical treatment at the scene.

"Neither are believed to have suffered any life-threatening injuries.”

The force said the road was closed while emergency services responded to the incident, but North East Live Traffic reported it reopened after 11am.
