South Shields pet pampering business helps break world record

A South Shields pet pampering business has helped raise money for charity while challenging a world record.

The Groom Room at Pets Home raised £225 for abandoned and unwanted pets charity, Support Adoption For Pets.

Along with 84 other salons in northern England and Scotland, the Groom Room competed to beat the current Guinness World Record of 5,000 dogs washed in a 12-hour period across multiple locations.

With help from 45 local dogs in South Shields, overall the Groom Room salon teams washed 5,468 dogs collectively raising more than £32,000 and successfully scrubbing away the current world record.

Lindsay Ratcliffe, salon manager at South Shields’s Groom Room, in Station Road, said: “Our salon team really rolled up their sleeves to wash lots of dogs and they raised some valuable funds in the process.

“The in-store Vets4Pets practice also helped us fundraise on the day for Support Adoption For Pets, in addition to offering free weight and microchip checks for pets.”
