South Tyneside Council recently received an application for the venture at 154 Hedgeley Road in Hebburn.
According to planning documents, the property was previously used as storage for nearby fish and chip shop Top Fellas.

The applicant said the proposals would revamp a rundown building and convert it into a business providing employment and a service for the area.
A planning statement from the applicant, submitted to council planners, makes a case for the business, which will be considered by planners and councillors before a decision is made.
The statement reads: “As shown on the location plan, the site is in between a chinese takeaway and fish and chip shop.

“The property has been vacant for a number of years, which hasn’t helped the local area in any way. There are no benefits to the community.”
The planning statement goes on to say: “The proposed use will add to the offer on the road and [will] be compliant with both national and local planning policies.
“It makes sense to change the use and use the potential of the property which at the present time [does] nothing for the local environment, economy and social development of the area.”
