The incident, at 12.50pm on Wednesday, comes in the wake of an appeal by Northumbria Police for families to keep a close eye on youngsters after officers dealt with a series of reports about missing children along the same stretch of coastline and south in Sunderland.
Police confirmed on social media that the force had received an increased number of calls, including 10 reports of young children going missing after becoming separated from their families at the beach, and asked families to be vigilant.
All children involved were safely reunited with their loved ones.
