MP warns of jobless ‘scar’ on young
LONG-TERM SCARS ... David Miliband fears the effects of youth unemployment.
SOUTH Shields MP David Miliband has warned of the risk of “long-term scars” caused by youth unemployment.
Mr Miliband said the problem started before the recession, but claimed it had got worse under David Cameron’s administration.
The former Foreign Secretary said: “There is a very, very serious problem.
“There are 250,000 young people who have been unemployed for more than a year.
“There are one million young people under the age of 25 who are unemployed. Some of them are graduates, who are in short-term unemployment.
“There are 1.4 million under 25s who are not in employment, education, or training. That is a state that leads to quite long-term scars.”
He said action was needed to get youngsters ready for work, especially those not heading to university, and remedial help for those unemployed.
And he criticised the Government’s Work Programme which, he said, will only help one in 10 young people.

Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 06:42 AMHe wont stand up to Cameron because he is as gutless and cowardly as his brother and the rest of his political cronies. We need him out and a local MP to take his place. Won't happen of course until the local electrorate are made to see through his weasel scheming.

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 03:55 PMSo what we have here is a man with at least three jobs saying, "the Government in which I was a Minister, allowed Youth unemployment to become a national scandal, but David Cameron has allowed it to get even worse", playground stuff. But will the people of South Shields give him his marching orders at the next Election? I think not.

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 02:47 PMSo why doesn't he go to London and say this directly to Camerons face on Camera for the nation to see? Is it because he is so busy with his multiple jobs he hasn't got time to fight for South Shields?
