What a grand wax!

PUB regulars have made a grand donation to Cancer Connections.

Drinkers at The Hylton Castle Arms raised 1,000 for the South Shields charity after taking part in a wax-off.

Barmaid Leanne Walburn, 23, and sister Kayla, 21, offered waxes to punters game for a laugh – and the cash came rolling in.

Leanne said: "We have done quite a lot of fundraising for Cancer Research over the years, but with Cancer Connections you can see where your money is going. It's a great cause."

Cancer Connections co-founder Deborah Roberts said: "I have visited The Hylton Castle Arms on a few occasions and everyone has been really eager to get on board and support the work of Cancer Connections.

"We are extremely grateful to everyone who has been involved."

The Sunderland pub is aiming to provide the charity with a further 500 soon.

Clairvoyant Sean Roper, who held a show at the bar last week, has donated 1 from every ticket sold.

Cancer Connections is aiming to buy a four-bedroom bungalow in South Shields to use as a drop-in centre, and the money from the pub is part of 10,000 the charity is expecting to receive from fundraising efforts last year.

Ms Roberts added: "It's fantastic people who have already collected for us are continuing to support us as we near our target."
