Tamzin's more than just a pretty face

STUNNER Tamzin Cummings proved she was more than just a pretty face at this year's Miss England competition.

The Gazette's Face of 2007 and the current Miss Sunderland just missed out on a place on the podium, coming fourth in the pageant, but she managed to pick up the Miss England's Got Talent title.

The 19-year-old former Whitburn C of E School and South Tyneside College student wowed judges with her voice, singing Don't Rain On My Parade from the film Funny Girl.

Tamzin said she loved every moment of the event, held at the Hilton Metropole, in Birmingham, last Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Sunderland University student said: "I was absolutely shocked to win the Miss Talent round, and I was shortlisted for the Miss Eco round, which I was really pleased about.

"It was an amazing atmosphere. Everyone was buzzing, and I got to bring home another tiara and sash.

"I made some great national contacts, so hopefully I will be able to do the North East proud during my year as Miss Sunderland. I'm absolutely thrilled I was fourth."

Miss Sunderland organiser Simon Robertson said: "The talent round was a big thing for Tamzin, so I'm glad that's the round she won.

"I was delighted that she made it into the top 20 in the country, because she has worked so hard for this.

"You could see how much it meant to her on the night, and she did Sunderland proud."

Tamzin will hold the Miss Sunderland title for another year.

In the meantime, however, she is hoping to act as an ambassador for Sunderland, taking part in charity events and other promotional work.

Miss Nott-ingham, Jessica Linley, was crowned Miss England out of more than 60 girls in the competition.
