Relief as baby Isaac's free of disease
THIS is the baby boy who has been declared free of the rare condition that claimed the life of his sister.
Isaac Mason's parents today spoke of their agonising wait, and relief, at finding the newborn does not carry the same enzyme deficiency that killed their two-year-old daughter Evie.
Nichola and Michael Mason, 41, carry the same genetic condition that left little Isaac facing a one-in-four chance of having
I-cell disease, which affects just one-in-three million people.
It meant 34-year-old Nichola's pregnancy was tinged with concern as she waited to find out if her second child had the life-threatening condition.
But the couple were overjoyed to learn that Isaac, now nine weeks old, is free of the disease.
Nichola, of Ringwood Square, Red House, Sunderland, said: "I couldn't stop crying when I heard the results."
Nichola is urging people to take part in this year's Midnight Walk in aid of the Grace House Children's Hospice Appeal on Saturday, June 19.
