NEWCASTLE United and Sunderland have been named in the top 30 of the world’s top-earning football clubs.

According to the latest Deloitte Football Money League, the North-East rivals are amongst the world’s top revenue generating clubs for the 2010/11 season.

Figures show the Magpies came 25th in the standings, earning £88.5m – a rise of 69 per cent on the previous season.

The Black Cats, meanwhile, were listed 30th after seeing a 21 per cent rise in revenue to £79.4m.

For the fourth successive year, the clubs comprising the top six places in the Money League – Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Chelsea – have remained the same.

Dan Jones, partner in the sports business group at Deloitte, said: “Continued growth of the top 20 clubs during 2010/11 emphasises the strength of football’s top clubs, especially in these tough economic times.”

Once again, the Money League top 20 comprises clubs from the ‘big five’ European leagues, six of which come from the Premier League, including Liverpool (9th), Tottenham Hotspur (11th) and Manchester City (12th).
