MP's cash boost for his old rugby club

JARROW MP Stephen Hepburn scored a cash try for his old rugby club – with the help of sporty Parliamentarians.

Mr Hepburn presented Jarrovians Rugby Club with a 500 donation on behalf of the UK Parliamentary Football Club.

A player with the Jarrow squad for almost 20 years, Mr Hepburn said he was "delighted" to hand over the money to team members at the club house, near the Lukes Lane Estate, Hebburn.

The Jarrow MP regularly plays for the UK Parliamentary Football Club, which raises money for various charities and organisations.

Mr Hepburn said: "I was really pleased to present my former rugby club with this small contribution from the Parliamentary Football Club.

"It is aimed to help develop grassroots sport, and I am sure it will have a positive impact on the club.

"I am fully aware of the benefits that sport can bring through keeping fit, encouraging teamwork and building self-esteem.

"I look forward to seeing the club go from strength to strength."

Mr Hepburn met with Jarrovians chairman Brian Berry, junior coach Bob Winn and junior section co-ordinator Sharon Campbell.

Players from the Jarrovians under-13s and under-14s sides were also in attendance.

Money donated by Mr Hepburn and his fellow sporty Parliamentarians will benefit the junior section of the club.

Jarrovians are looking to develop their existing junior sides by creating additional sides for younger age groups.

New members are welcome to get involved. Call (07974) 786483 for more details.
