Miliband is bookies' favourite to take over
AS Gordon Brown tries this weekend to form a coalition which will keep him in Downing Street, speculation is mounting over his future.
As the incumbent Prime Minister, he is allowed to attempt form an administration, probably with the Liberal Democrats, but he will undoubtedly come under pressure to quit – and his successors as Labour leader are already emerging.
South Shields MP David Miliband has already emerged as the bookies' evens favourite to take over, but Alan Johnson, Ed Miliband, Ed Balls and Alistair Darling are all 8/1, followed by Harriet Harman at 10/1 and Lord Mandelson at 12/1.
But William Hill has Conservative leader David Cameron at 1/6 to be Prime Minister on June 1, while Ladbrokes offered 2/7 that he will be PM by June 6.
Both bookmakers made Gordon Brown 7/2 to still be in office, with Nick Clegg a 33/1 shot.
They also offered odds of 7/4 that there would be a second general election during 2010.
