Gazette man lands top award

SHIELDS Gazette reporter Paul Clifford picked up a prestigious journalism award at the weekend.
The Gazette crime reporter was awarded the Eric Dobson Scroll after achieving the top marks by a North East trainee in the industry’s National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) training scheme.
The award was made at the Cordner North East Press Awards on Saturday.
The Shields Gazette team was shortlisted for the front page splash subbing award.
The annual awards ceremony was held at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland.
Gazette editor John Szyma-nski said: “Congratulations to Paul.
“He thoroughly deserved the high marks for his hard work and dedication.”
