THE family of a keen fisherman from South Tyneside has donated £240 to a seafaring charity in his memory.

Loved ones collected the money from mourners at the funeral of John Charlton Suggitt, and handed it to RNLI Tynemouth.

The 56-year-old died suddenly on September 26 last year.

During his life, Mr Suggitt, who was married to Ann Marie, from Lea Avenue in Calf Close, Jarrow, loved fishing and sailing.

The father of three – John Jnr, 31, Claire, 29, and Craig, 27, – had numerous boats during his life, and spent many hours at sea, often with his family.

John Jnr, who lives on the Lakes estate in Jarrow, said: “At times, dad benefited from the RNLI during his sailing career.

“That’s why we decided to hold a collection for them at his funeral, just to give a little something back.”

Mr Suggitt’s youngest son Craig, an oil rig worker, and grandson Craig Jnr, seven, presented the cash to the RNLI’s station coxswain, Michael Nugent.

Mr Nugent used to moor his boat next to Mr Suggitt’s at North Shields Fish Quay.
