A TEENAGE girl is one step closer to achieving her West End dream.

Olivia Davies, of Bede Burn Road, Jarrow, says it would be a dream come true to star in her favourite shows, Chicago and Wicked.

And now the 13-year-old’s talents are being recognised after she was nominated for Young Performer(s) of the Year in the Pride of South Tyneside Awards.

Olivia, a pupil at Jarrow School, sings, dances and acts.

She goes to Poppleton’s School of Dance and Performing Arts, based at Primrose Community Centre in Lambton Terrace, Jarrow, where she studies tap, contemporary and freestyle.

She is also a member of the John Christopher Theatre Company, as well as doing cheerleading.

She was nominated by her friend, Eve Simpson, who said: “Olivia has a fantastic talent, which deserves lots of recognition.

“She is a fantastic performer and really lovely girl, who bring happiness to anywhere she performs.

“She has an extremely bright future.”

Olivia said: “I’m really happy to be nominated, and to get to take part in the Pride awards again. The concert for the Young Performers is a great night.

“I was there last year too, and we’ve all become friends, so it’s not really competitive between us – we all just enjoy it.

“Joe McElderry and Jade Thirlwall both won the award, and went on to great things, and it gives me confidence to know that people from here have made something of themselves.”

After school, Olivia hopes to turn her hobbies into a career, and is developing more skills by learning to play piano and keyboard.

She said: “I want to go to college and study performing arts – I’d love that.

“And my dream would be to perform on the West End stage in musicals. I think my dream role would be to play Velma Kelly in Chicago.”

Her mum, Ashley, 48, a skills for life co-ordinator, said: “It’s a great event that highlights what South Tyneside has, and there’s some really good talent here. I’m proud of Olivia for being involved in this fabulous event.”
