CREATIVE and media diploma students have been using their animation skills to promote good citizenship.

Year 10 students at Mortimer Community College, South Shields, have produced a range of computer-generated slogans aimed at reducing litter, promoting recycling, and to discourage smoking.

The digital animation work has been displayed on TV screens throughout the school, while some teachers have used the series of campaigns to raise awareness of the issues.

The diploma students used cutting edge technology in the school’s iMedia suite, which has over 30 state-of-the-art computers.

James Boyle, head of creative design, said: “I am incredibly proud of the approach the students have taken.

“They have been very creative, the standard of work is very high and they have taken a mature and focused approach to working with real clients.

“The campaigns have been very successful, including an increase in the number of recycled materials collected, and more students attending after school sports clubs.”

Twenty Year 10 and 11 students are currently studying the creative and media diploma, which is run in partnership with South Tyneside College.
