YOUNGSTERS at an East Shields school earned themselves some tasty treats as they got to grips with a foreign language.

Pupils at Sea View Primary in Horsley Hill, took part in a ‘French Friday’, which was a celebration of modern foreign language learning throughout the school.

The day kicked off with a special assembly, where everyone sang traditional French songs.

Then hungry students visited the ‘Sea View Café’, with a taste of France, where Year 6 pupils waited on their younger classmates.

Headteacher, Jane Cunningham, said: “A visit to a Parisian café became a reality for children at our school.

“Everyone was very excited. Both pupils and staff took part, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Year 6 performed brilliantly as French waiters.”

The café had lots of delicious goodies on offer, including croissants, pain au chocolat and jus d’orange.

But the children could only get to sample them if they placed their orders in French.

Ms Cunningham added: “All of our pupils, from reception right through to Year 6, are taught French in their classes.

“Activities such as this gives them a chance to practise the skills they have learnt in a fun way, and discover new ones.

“Everyone had a very good time.”
