Diane’s nearing her fundraising goal

A SOUTH Tyneside woman is just £103 short of achieving a goal she set herself in memory of her husband.
Diane James had a target of raising £4,000 for charity by hosting a fundraising night after the death of her husband, Kevin, last September.
The 50-year-old taxi driver, died after a battle with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.
Mr James, father to Adam, 21, and Amy, 16, spent time at the Macmillan information and support centre at Sunderland Royal Hospital, so his wife thought this would be the perfect cause to benefit from her charity effort.
A charity night was held on Friday, February 10, at the Hedworth Hall in Westoe, South Shields, and Mrs James, of Whiteleas, South Shields, was overwhelmed by the support and generosity.
She said: “It was amazing – so many people came that I just walked about all night in a stupor. It was absolutely brilliant.
“The entertainment was fantastic, and I am just so grateful to everyone who came and who donated prizes.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better night.” Mourners raised £640 at Mr James’s funeral. and this was added to the amount raised at the evening, taking the total up to £3,718.
Friends and family members then donated a further £175 to help achieve Mrs James’s dream target – meaning she is now only £103 short,
However, Mrs James, a functional skills tutor, is determined to raise the outstanding amount one way or another, and won’t stop fundraising just yet.
She said: “I said earlier that I wanted to raise £4,000, so that’s what I will be doing.
“Come hell or high water, I’ll find the last little bit, even if I have to put it in myself.
“I just can’t thank everyone enough who has helped me out so far.”
