BROKEN WINDOWS ... in Anderson Street, the scene of the Samurai sword attack.

A MAN was slashed during an attack on his South Tyneside home.

The 37-year-old’s ground-floor flat in Anderson Street, South Shields, was targeted just before 8pm yesterday.

Two men threw stones at the flat’s windows – cracking two of them.

When the 37-year-old occupant came out to see what was happening, he was confronted by the men, one wielding a blade – thought to be a Samurai sword.

His arm was cut and he was taken to South Tyneside District Hospital for treatment to his injuries, which are not thought to be serious.

He was kept in overnight and was due to have surgery today.

It is believed the three men are involved in a long-running feud.

Police were called to the street and arrested two men, aged 22 and 29.

They were still being quizzed by police this morning.

Investigations are still taking place to find the weapon used.

A police spokesman said: “Just before 8pm last night police received reports of men damaging windows of a house in Anderson Street, South Shields.

“Officers attended the scene and following enquiries have arrested two men, a 22-year-old on suspicion of wounding and a 29-year-old on suspicion of criminal damage.

“A 37-year-old man attended hospital with an arm injury. Inquiries are ongoing.”

Anyone with information or any witnesses to the incident should contact police on 101 ext 69191 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
