Drug addict jailed for robbing woman at cashpoint
JAILED ... Jamie Pearce robbed a mum and her daughter at a cashpoint.
A DRUG addict who robbed a mother and daughter in South Tyneside has been jailed.
Jamie Pearce, pushed the woman, 41, to the ground as she and her daughter, 15, withdrew £200 from a machine at Asda in South Shields.
Pearce, 22, of Gordon Terrace, Morpeth, Northumberland, was jailed for 15 months at Newcastle Crown Court after admitting robbery at 12.30pm on October 23.
Kevin Wardlaw, prosecuting, said: “The woman withdrew £200 and the defendant approached, pushed her to the ground once, snatched the cash and pushed her to the ground again when she got up to remonstrate.”
The victim suffered grazes and soreness.
Pearce was traced to a nearby pub and then tracked to Ashington in Northumberland where he was arrested.
Mr Wardlaw described the robbery as a ‘spur of the moment’ crime Pearce carried out to fund his addiction.
Charlton Carr, defending, told the court heroin had “taken over” Pearce’s life but he had made positive steps to beat his addiction in custody.
Judge Whitburn QC told Pearce: “You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself.”
