Caught red-handed after garage raid
TWO men who broke into a garage were spotted walking off with a gas barbecue and a garden table.
Joseph Duggan and Steven Moore were caught red-handed by police, who saw the pair struggling with the large items.
Moore, 25, dropped the table and ran off, while Duggan, 19, stayed and was arrested.
Moore was arrested later after being caught coming out of a garden wearing a ladies’ dressing gown as a disguise.
Duggan, of Madras Street, South Shields, pleaded guilty to burglary at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.
At an earlier hearing, Moore, of Bunyan Avenue, South Shields, pleaded guilty and was fined £50, ordered to pay £85 costs and £60 compensation.
Caroline McGurk, prosecuting Duggan, said: “Officers were on patrol in Pintail Court at 10.30pm, and saw the two men coming out of the garage.
“Duggan was carrying a gas barbecue, while Moore had a table, which he dropped, damaging it, and ran off.”
A probation service report recommended that Duggan be made to do unpaid work.
Geoffrey Forrester, defending, said he agreed with the recommendation.
Magistrates gave Duggan a 12-month community order with 60 hours of unpaid work, and ordered him to pay £50 costs.
